Holo Effect Polymer Clay Course

Holo Effect Polymer Clay Course

USD $24.00

(41 customer reviews)

This favorite course has been updated and freshened up with two new ways to make polymer clay cutter earrings. This course also includes instructions for making stud-style holo earrings with embedded backs, a domed donut pendant, and a way of making striking ornaments.

The Holo Effect is the most visually striking effect I’ve ever seen in polymer clay. It’s luminous, shimmering, and very versatile. By changing the colors you use, you can make a subtle shimmer or a jaw-dropping multi-color and color-shifting effect. The Holo Effect makes incredible jewelry, eye-catching earrings, fun journal covers, and must-have holiday ornaments.

More Information

This easy course is suitable for all levels, but if you’re new to polymer I recommend adding the Polymer Clay Essentials eBook to your order. Recently updated and expanded (July 2023), the Holo Effect Course is nearly 60 pages long and contains 138 beautiful photographs. There are six projects, each showing a different way to use and construct the Holo Effect, including a simple pendant, a domed pendant, a simple framed ornament, post earrings, and a two cutter earring projects. You will easily see from these examples how to adapt the idea and use the Holo Effect in your projects. All of the items required to produce the Holo Effect can be purchased at your local craft store in the US. (Non-US purchasers of the course will also be given a link to purchase some inexpensive materials from my website if they’re not able to find them locally.) ***Note*** Resin is not required to use the technique, though I recommend it as the best choice. You can still get excellent results with Fimo Deco Gel or Sculpey Clear.

Really fun project for any experience level. The hologram effect is so cool.

  2. Christine Buss

It seems a little silly to leave a review, when there are already about 50 reviews talking about what a great tutorial this is. But it is. Exciting technique, great level of helpful detail. I had success with the technique right away .

  3. Sue Montana

What a great idea! Thanks for the tutorial, I love anything iridescent or holographic! I made a cabochon and used it in a setting that has a cutout on the front (a frog – I got the setting at Artbeads), and indents inside to hold it in. I placed the polyclay cab into the setting to get the indents prior to baking; the cab only goes into the setting one way (after I glued it, it didn’t matter). I also made turtle earrings – the silver charms with the iridescent background and finished with resin is wonderful!

I have only used the effect on purple and green clay; this will be great for Halloween projects!

  9. Marlies Mรถckli

Halo Effects eBook is an inspiring technique presented by a motivating and encouraging instructor. Many features contribute to this book’s excellence. 1.) Ginger responds to your questions via email quickly. 2.) She has an extensive library of posts she freely shares and refers to for additional information on a specific topic in her ebooks is extremely helpful. 3.) Her list of resources is a gift. Saves a lot of time trying to find certain tools or/and supplies. 4.) Ginger makes learning to use polymer clay ‘fun for us old ladies’. As a commissioned Community Faith Nurse I envision this technique as angelic. Love it!

  12. Beth

The Holo Effect is an excellent tutorial! The process is explained in considerable detail, and great clarity, with plenty of pictures to demonstrate, while remaining open to individual variations and ideas. It’s a technique tutorial that includes several different ideas for using the holo look. Your imagination really is the limit!

Once you learn about this one you wonโ€™t wanna stop trying it out! So much flashy goodness to be had!

The tutorial itself is comprehensive in directions, tips, and advice. I am always impressed to see the testing and troubleshooting done by the Blue Bottle Tree. Questions are typically anticipated and answered in the work done here.

Consideration is given to all levels of expertise.

Various project ideas are provided to make this a versatile technique, adaptable to several arenas in polymer clay art.

  14. Leslie

I’ve had such beautiful results from making items as a result of purchasing this tutorial! I wouldn’t have known where to even begin were it not for this tutorial and Ginger’s clear and concise step by step instructions in this guide. Another “must have” tutorial from Ginger’s collection!

  15. Doreen Neilley

I have bought several of Ginger’s polymer clay tutorials, and the Holo Effect tut is my very favourite. All of her tutorials display the obvious amount of time and care that she puts into them, but the Holo Effect tut is an incredible amount of fun on top of that attention to detail! The ability to use dollar store materials to turn clay pieces into out of this world jewelry and ornaments by using fairly simple techniques (once Ginger explains them in her succinct prose and numerous clear photos) is great. And the pieces created by others who have bought the Holo Effect tutorial and shared them with us are a great way to get me inspired when I am blocked.

    Thank you SO much, Ginger!

  16. Summer Ross

First let me say I was surprised by how easy this was to follow. Then even more still by the different options given to apply this effect. I have been able to make several fun pieces from this tutorial, and though it seems to be used for pendants I’m finding other uses for it like in ornaments for Christmas this year as well as festive decorations for commissioned orders.
I love this special effect and it was well worth my money to have this tutorial.

  17. Marcia

I love the Holo effect tutorial. It was fun and easy. Ginger does a great job with tutorials giving accurate and thorough information including projects you can make. She also gives valuable information on finding needed supplies.

  18. Deborah Rice

Fantastic tutorial!!!! I so enjoyed working with such clear and concise instructions, and so well photographed. After your secret ingredient arrived I sat down and made four sets of the domed pendant, along with smaller versions for earrings. One set for me and three sets for gifts, and they will be loved by all. I’ll continue on through some of the other projects shown and more! Thank you so much!

  19. Denise Shea

I haven’t had a chance to really to do more than a couple of quick pendants, but the tutorial is very clear and easy to follow. The effect is amazing and I’m looking forward to creating more things. Especially Christmas ornaments.

  20. Kathy McC

Ginger’s tutorials are amazingly photographed and she provides easy to understand, step-by-step detail – including possible variations – so that you’re inspired while you learn. I have a few of Ginger’s tutorials, including this one and all of them are a great value. I highly recommend Ginger’s Holo Effect tutorial and think you’ll be amazed at the special effects that this technique reveals. So much potential! I also highly recommend Ginger’s Sea Glass tutorial.

  21. Vivian

  22. Ellie

This is a well written and easy to follow tutorial with clear photos which gave excellent results. It is a technique that I shall return to as I practise and improve my skills.

  23. Krithika

The technique in this tutorial is really unique. Ginger’s clear instructions help produce some lovely pieces. I like how she includes some different framing options and a whole bunch of end-to-end projects apart from just illustrating the basic idea. I purchased this in the month of December so I got the bonus Christmas supplement. I’ve made countless pendants, ornaments and earrings with these: they make great presents! I wear the Holo pendants I made all the time and they always get lots of compliments! Definitely one of my favorite tutorials and favorite techniques!

  24. Giuliana

I love that Ginger always does thorough research on her topics before she posts a newsletter or a new tutorial. Much of the trial and error has been completed by her and saves me lots of time. Instructions and explanations are clear and easily understandable. And, Ginger is always available if I have a question.

I’ve read through this tutorial and found it just as detailed and full of information as all of Ginger’s other tutorials. I never think twice when buying them from her. Her tutorials are the type you go back to frequently, either to use the techniques again or to get some inspiration.

Ginger’s tutorials are absolutely wonderful. The three that I have purchased look as if they should be published in a book. Ginger uses her scientific background along with her artistic and teaching abilities, to create these wonderfully unique tutorials. Her illustrations are so detailed which makes it easy for you to create your own variations that are very unique. I have reviewed aproximately 50 polymer clay tutorials over the years and keep coming back to Ginger’s as my favorites. Additionally, she has answered so many of my questions, even when they involved computer issues. Please purchase her tutorials. You will not be dissappointed!

Made a trip to my local craft store for that secret ingredient and I was in business. I’ve bought lots of tutorials and books on polymer clay, but this is my absolute favorite! First of all, this is an excellently written tutorial. If you need pictures, or written instructions- she’s got you covered. I think the one thing about Ginger’s tutorials, you are immediately immersed in a technique that gets you even more excited when you realize it’s just the tip of the iceberg with this amazing medium. I LOVE this Holo-effect technique. I think it was the missing fun link I needed to get me through the winter doldrums.
